Best Japanese dictionary ever used

If I could I would attach a screenshot to this review. You can favorite unfamiliar vocabularies and delete recent search results on this app. But you need to pay for it to remove the ads, which is totally worthy I think. I enjoyed my using.

Great Japanese Dictionary.

There is a another review here that says its the best Japanese dictionary they have ever used. I would like to echo that statement and also emphasize that its not a hyperbole. Put it simply this app is very great at telling you the English equivalent of words. Language is very tricky because one word can mean many things. In English for example, the word "fan" can refer to an object that spins to push air to you or refer to a person who likes something and is devoted to it. This app will give you all the possible meaning of a Japanese Japanese word you posted, sometimes with simple explanation and elaboration. This is pretty much the only thing the app does but it does this really really really well and is far more important feature when it comes to translating something. First off, it needs to be said that this isnt a translation app. It strictly does word to word translation, and it cannot translate sentences. The downside is of course that you need to have the Japanese word in order to look up the meaning. Typing in how a words sounds like will probably not work most of the time but if you come across a Japanese word and you need to know what it means, copy paste it here and it will give it to you. When combined with Google Translate, you pretty much have the ultimate translation tools right there. Google Translate can scan things (even from images) and translate them but as we all know, their translation and be imperfect and sometimes really off because they get the context wrong. With an app like this dictionary, you can take a Google Translate output (the Japanese text that it reproduces if from an image) and paste it here. Using it and some thinking, you should be able to construct more logical sentences because you are getting all the possible meanings of that scanned word. And thats from the prospective of someone who doesnt know much Japanese. If you are actually learning Japanese, this app will be even more useful to you because you can just spend your time looking up the vocabulary. I like translating Japanese sentences as a hobby and is sort of self learning the language. This app has been important to me. Alone it is a great focussed app, combine it with Google Translate and some basic knowledge of Japanese grammar, you can translate even complex sentences easily.

Extremely useful

As a person living in Japanese and learning the language this app is great. It is very quick and is a great help for communicating and learning. My only recommendation would be to show how to write the Kanji. The stroke order and meanings, or a link that can explain each kanji more.

Bad update

Not a fan of the new style. It looks nice but the ad in the middle is a pain and also they now only give you the kanji. I need the hiragana to know how to spell it.

Why change it

The old one was fine as it is. It did NOT need this update.

Worse Update Ever

I do not need a Kanji Speller, I did have a fine dictionary and what I have now is totally useless! This format change has made it so you cant define simple words like Fuseki or Iaido. If you do find a word you cant access the definition because the app then crashes. Can you please tell me what in hell was on your mind, you couldnt do worse if you were stoned on LSD, really you people need to know how to leave well enough alone.

Best Japanese dictionary app!!!

I always appreciated being able to look up a word in English, Japanese, or romaji, and had been using the old version for a year and though wasnt thrilled with it due to incompleteness, I was still okay with it as it was better than any of the other ones that were free as well. But the new updated version has all the improvements I was hoping for, ten times better. Now, it automatically lists all the ways to use a word in sample sentences, and most importantly, offers Japanese voice pronunciation of the sentences of the word. I love the new format because it is better organized and clearer to read and navigate through. Thanks Bravolol! My Japanese will get better even faster with you!

Sorry...

The update wasnt necessary, but I wish that the app had more romaji than it does now. And I dont know if this is my iPhone or the app, but sometimes I cant get into the app all of a sudden because of lack of space, but I can still download OTHER apps... Im not sure. But this app IS great, its just a few small things that I wish would be changed or tweaked.

Good enough

This is pretty good as a free app. Quick for searching. No annoying ad.

so much love

Im a nerd who likes to translate fancomics (though of what Ill never tell, Im enough of a nerd as it is;;;) and this app has helped me so much legit without it I probably would have given up a long time ago. its so helpful and I absolutely adore it! good job guys on making a wonderful dictionary app!

BAD UPDATE

The format is different which doesnt really matter but what the heck why cant I see any hiragana or romaji?!? This makes the app completely useless if it only shows the kanji. I am extremely angry I no longer have a usable dictionary. If you can fix the kana/romaji issue I will give this 5 stars, until then it deserves 1 since it no longer functions properly.

Not Updating

This app has been incredibly useful to me, now more than ever as I am in Japan and frequently need to reference words or derive the furigana from the kanji (or just outright translate). It looks like the new version has some issues, though, and so here are a couple of reasons why I wont update to the current version. First: auto-clearing of search history. There have been multiple occasions where I search a word and need to go back and look at it again later, and since it stays in my history, I can just go back to that time and find it. Seeing as the update makes that no longer possible to do, I would prefer to stay on the previous version--its truly a great educational tool! Second: user feedback. Apparently, the app now no longer provides the furigana for the kanji when you search a word, which is already the case when you go from English to Japanese. If that is also true going from Japanese to English, what is even the point of searching? I frequently write out/copy-paste kanji so I can actually know how to say the word and not just define it. Third: experience. The app as it presently is (for me) works beautifully. Ive not had any troubles with it whatsoever and dont really see any reason to make it change to something which appears to be inferior. So, if anything could be done to improve the app, it would be, first, to reverse the auto-clearing functionality. Instead, make that optional for users who prefer a squeaky clean history. Second, make furigana available both ways (searching English to Japanese and Japanese to English). Third, continue to provide a beautiful in-app experience. Whether it be inputting words/characters, copying and pasting, or simply enjoying how the app looks, providing a solid aesthetic for users who rely on the app should always be a goal. By doing these three things, I have no doubt that the app would be excellent for everyone and that reviews would be more positive. Ill also be glad to update my review with a positive rating whenever these issues get sorted out (not that Im important, but who doesnt like a good review, right?). Hoping for the best from this app and the team behind it!

Update

since the update the they made it a lot hard to copy and paste what i want. And i liked how it would show the slight differences between each definition in japanese but now its just a list of words and its hard to know which one is the closest translation for what im looking for. Especially now that its all in kanji too...

New version is terrible

Title says it all, the new version is so much harder to use than the old one

Update failure

Previous to the update, this app was extremely helpful in studying the Japanese language; however, the lack of furigana above the kanji makes it difficult to learn and the new layout doesnt make any sense.

NomoreKanji

I would prefer previous version. pls fix that. its so hard to use

Failed redisign

After the update it lost all the nice features I paid for

If it aint broke...

Prior to the update, I liked the fact that within a search entry of a Japanese word, each definition or possible usage had Hiragana with a brief explanation. Now, all we have is audible pronunciation with no definition.

Update completely ruined the app

I loved this app. It was so handy and easy to use, it made working on my Japanese homework much easier. But this update completely ruined it. I need to be able to click on results and look at them in detail. You cant just give me a list of Japanese words, with no breakdown of them at all. This app has become complete garbage, please turn it back to what it was before.
